Why are some people afraid of guns, they are inanimate objects?

I have a weapon in my home. Safely tucked away. Been there for 9 years and it7 aint killed no one that I know of. However if given to the wrong person ie criminal, disabled beyond being able to use a firearm or untrained people. Weapons are neat to fire, the correct way.
