Has anyone ever meditated and felt like an inanimate object?

It sounds as though your mind had started to develop and experience an Earth nimitta, the element "personified", such as meditations on other elements, I.e. Water, Fire and Air (breath) often appear as nimittas, rings or other meditative objects (and also as sensations like you mentioned), these are not the only nimittas that we can use, there is also a nimitta of bright light, and a nimitta of void and many more. The Buddha said there are 88,000 different gates to enlightenment, so no way is wrong! As a Buddhist monk, Ajahn Brahm put it, "there is no such thing as a bad meditation."
